More Info on the iPhone
The complete OS will be stored on the flash memory, but it takes up far less than 500 MB making it easier to install software or firmware updates. No iTunes downloads at this time, but don't rule it out because it may be added later. Cingular is most likely being a bitch about it. Sadly you will not be able to use iTunes songs as ring tones. Safari is said to include as many plugins as possible including Flash and Java (Awesome!).

Apple Will Control iPhone Apps
Steve Jobs says consumers can expect more mobile applications for the iPhone by the time the device ships in June—but that Apple will control what applications make it onto the iPhone. I wonder if they'll sell them on iTunes?

AppleTV to Require iTunes 7.1
It was listed under the AppleTV Specs online but has now changed to just 7. However, along with Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later and Win XP SP2, you'll find iTunes 7.1. Since AppleTV will be released sometime next month, we can probably expect an iTunes upgrade as well.

iPhone Will Not Allow User Installable Applications
"The impression I got from the information coming out of the keynote was that the device would feature a full install of Mac OS X, and would run any and all desktop-based applications, as indicated by Apple asserting that the device "Runs OS X." You can imagine my surprise when while talking to the booth attendant I was informed that users will not actually be able to install any applications. This is a point of utter confusion with me. Why would Apple refer to the software running on the device as "OS X," when in reality, it will be running the long rumored stripped-down version of the operating system."

Apple iPhone
The iPhone has finaly been announced today. Sweet, glorious specs of the 11.6 millimeter device (that's frickin' thin, by the way) include a 3.5-inch 480 x 320 touchscreen display with multi-touch support and a proximity sensor to turn off the sensor when it's close to your face, 2 megapixel cam, 4GB or 8 GB of storage, Bluetooth with EDR and A2DP, WiFi that automatically engages when in range, and quadband GSM radio with EDGE. Perhaps most amazingly, though, it somehow runs OS X with support for Widgets, Google Maps, and Safari, and iTunes (of course) with CoverFlow out of the gate. A partnership with Yahoo will allow all iPhone customers to hook up with free push IMAP email. Apple quotes 5 hours of battery life for talk or video, with a full 16 hours in music mode, no word on standby time yet. The 4GB iPhone will go out the door in the US as a Cingular exclusive for $499 on a two-year contract, 8GB for $599. Ships Stateside in June.
